If you would like to see more of the park and its surrounds, it is possible to combine a boat ride with a cool walk up a rainforest stream. A popular choice is to travel from the park headquarters by boat to the Langsat River where the boat can be beached and you can trek up the river, wading in its cool, clear water.
The tour travels down the Melinau River before entering the larger Tutoh River and travelling upstream past Long Iman, a Penan settlement, before entering the much smaller Langsat River, which flows from the park. Once on the Langsat River, you can enjoy a leisurely trek upstream, experiencing the forest and doing some bird watching. Spend as much time as you like splashing and swimming in its waters or sit under the small water falls that make natural spa pools.
A stop at Long Iman on the way there or back is worthwhile as the community has a small market that sells local handicrafts.
This is a beautifully secluded place, untouched by people and development and a privilege to visit. We remind any of our visitors how important it is that they respect this and help in its protection by being responsible visitors.
Most of the boat operators are Penan and do not speak English – so if you think this would be a problem you should hire a World Heritage Guide to accompany you.
